I have a confession: despite being a lifelong sci-fi fan, and someone who routinely builds and glues entire facial appliances to my own head for fun… I had never built a LEGO set before.
I know. I know. Shocking. But recently, something monumental happened in the nerd universe, LEGO finally released an official Star Trek model: the Enterprise-D from The Next Generation, and I was honoured to have LEGO reach out to partner with me, meaning, I got it early!
The Build Begins: Or How I Became a Starfleet Engineer (Sort Of)
Opening the box felt like Christmas morning, Comic Con opening, and a transporter malfunction all in one. Bags of bricks sorted by number? Check. Instruction book bigger than my head? Check. Me pretending this absolutely counts as Starfleet engineering training? BIG check.
The best part? I genuinely didn’t know what to expect. I’ve spent years sculpting prosthetics, hand-laying hairlines, and painting alien foreheads, but building a starship out of tiny interlocking bricks? Whole new skill unlocked.
As I started assembling the saucer section, piece by piece, I felt my brain doing that very specific “nerdy hyperfocus” thing. The world fell away. My phone stopped existing. Time became meaningless. I had entered… The LEGO Zone.
Which, for the record, is extremely relaxing. Nobody warned me LEGO was basically meditation for people who enjoy structural integrity and fictional nacelles.

The Relaxation I Didn’t Know I Needed
I honestly wasn’t prepared for how calming this build would be. There was something incredibly grounding about following the instructions, clicking pieces into place, and slowly watching the Enterprise-D take shape. As someone who constantly juggles teaching, part time hair & makeup artistry, content creation, photography, cosplay builds, and going way too hard at conventions… this was the first time in ages I just sat, focused, and enjoyed a simple creative process.
The satisfying click of each brick felt like therapy, the growing starship felt like achievement. And finishing each section? Let’s just say: dopamine levels maximum warp.
A Historic Moment for Star Trek Fans
Let’s be honest, a LEGO Star Trek set has been long overdue. Star Wars fans have been building entire fleets for years. They’ve got walkers, starfighters, helmets, dioramas, you name it. Meanwhile, we Star Trek fans have been patiently (…and sometimes not so patiently) waiting for our turn.
So, the release of the Enterprise-D feels huge. It feels like recognition. It feels like the beginning of more official Star Trek merchandise actually made for fans like us, detail-obsessed, lore-loving, prop-analysing nerds.
Seeing it on my shelf now makes me unreasonably happy. And knowing I built it myself was even better.
Would I Do It Again? Absolutely.
Not only did I love the experience, but it unlocked an unexpected new hobby I didn’t realise I needed. There’s something special about combining creativity, nostalgia, and hands-on building, and doing it with one of the most iconic ships in sci-fi.
Plus… If Starfleet ever needs engineers with “advanced LEGO qualifications,” you know where to find me.
Final Thoughts: Should You Build the LEGO Enterprise-D?
If you’re a Trekkie, a LEGO lover, or just someone looking for a surprisingly therapeutic creative project, then 100% yes. This set is a celebration of Star Trek history, and a calming, joyful build from start to finish.
